Why Is My Tarantula Webbing the Enclosure?

Webbing is normal and functional. Tarantulas use silk to reinforce retreats, line burrows, anchor themselves, detect vibration and prepare moulting/feeding areas.

Heavy webbers

Species such as Green Bottle Blues and many arboreals can transform an enclosure with dense webbing. Preserve the structure when servicing water or removing prey remains.

Burrow entrances

Web at the entrance can act as trip lines and support substrate. A sealed webbed entrance can also appear before moulting.

Do not clean it away for appearance

Remove only webbing that prevents safe door operation or essential maintenance. Repeatedly stripping a retreat forces the spider to rebuild it.

Provide anchor points

Cork, leaves and other stable structure give arboreal/heavy-webbing species places to attach silk without webbing every service opening.
