Keeper guide

Tarantula Starter Setup UK

Confirm the scientific name, current size and lifestyle before choosing an enclosure. Terrestrials need floor space and low fall height, arboreals need vertical retreat space, and fossorials need deep substrate.

Enclosure

Use a secure enclosure with ventilation holes smaller than the spider can pass through. Provide the correct substrate depth, a retreat and a water dish that can be serviced easily.

Temperature in a UK home

Check the actual room where the spider will live. If it stays inside the species range, additional enclosure heating is unnecessary. The Tarantula Den does not recommend heat mats on tarantula enclosures.

Feeding and water

Keep fresh water available and offer appropriately sized invertebrate prey. Use body condition and life stage to pace feeding, and remove uneaten live prey.
