Before buying
Check check package, confirm spider condition, prepared enclosure, water, quiet settling period, record arrival. Choose the species first, then build the enclosure around its adult size, lifestyle, speed, growth rate and defensive behaviour.
Basic kit
Have a secure enclosure, suitable substrate, a retreat, a water dish, appropriate feeder insects, long tools and a catch cup ready before the spider arrives. Routine care should not require handling.
Mistakes to avoid
Feeding immediately from excitement, handling for inspection and redecorating after release.
