Answer
Feed slings small prey they can subdue easily. Tiny live feeders, small roach/cricket nymphs or fresh pre-killed portions can all work depending on sling size.
Prey size
Choose prey around the sling's body size or smaller when it is very young. Large struggling prey can stress or injure a tiny spider.
How often
Growing slings usually eat more frequently than adults. Use abdomen condition and the interval since the last moult to decide when to offer the next meal instead of forcing a fixed calendar.
Pre-killed food
Very small slings often scavenge fresh killed prey. Remove uneaten pieces before they dry out, mould or attract mites.
Premoult
Stop live feeding when the sling repeatedly refuses prey, seals its retreat or shows other premoult signs. Keep appropriate moisture and water available.
Quick checks
- Small safe prey
- No leftovers
- Adequate moisture
- Escape-proof vents
- Premoult signs
- Post-moult fangs hardened before feeding
