Condensation in a Tarantula Enclosure

A little temporary condensation can occur, but persistent heavy condensation often signals excess moisture, low airflow or a temperature difference that deserves review.

Answer

Brief condensation after watering or a temperature change can be normal. Persistent heavy condensation usually means the enclosure is staying too wet, airflow is too low, or warm humid air is meeting a colder surface.

Check the substrate

If the surface and lower layers are waterlogged for days, reduce watering. If only the panel fogs briefly while the substrate is appropriate, no major change may be needed.

Check ventilation

Cross-ventilation helps move moist air out. Do not seal vents to chase a humidity reading.

Check temperature

A cold window, outside wall or sudden room-temperature change can cause droplets even when watering has not changed. Move the enclosure away from direct sun and extreme local temperature zones.

Correct the cause

  • Reduce excess water
  • Improve airflow if stagnant
  • Keep the water dish
  • Check room temperature
  • Follow the species moisture requirement
