Before ordering
Confirm the scientific name, actual size, sex status and whether the spider is a sling, juvenile, subadult or adult. Read the seller's live-arrival and weather policy before paying.
Choose a specialist seller
Look for clear identification, realistic photos/descriptions, secure packaging and a way to contact the seller if delivery is delayed or the animal arrives in poor condition.
Prepare the enclosure first
The final enclosure should be ready before dispatch: substrate, retreat, ventilation and water all in place. Do not leave enclosure decisions until the spider is already in the post.
Delivery day
Arrange to receive the parcel promptly. Open it indoors in a controlled room, inspect the container before opening it and have a catch cup ready.
After arrival
Transfer the spider with minimal handling, provide water and let it settle. Save the invoice/seller record and any locality or form information supplied with the animal.
